Simple DIY Home Renovations

· Home Improvement

Renovating a house is a process that is tedious and time-consuming, but is also fun if you have the time and energy for it. It is especially fun when it becomes a family bonding session where every member of the family is contributing to the final finish. While you may be able to manage smaller renovation tasks yourself, in some instances, you may need to ask, is it viable for me to DIY my home renovations?

Some simple renovations that you can comfortably carry out—of course with a few skills in place are;

  1. Repainting your walls

If there is a fundamental skill you need to learn, let it be painting. Painting is the easiest way to get your house and furniture looking better in no time. Start with more visible areas of your home such as the gate, front door and the exterior. Do not, however, begin to paint without preparation. Remember the tiled walls, for example, in your bathroom. Highlight them by changing the tiles if they are old and rusted.

  1. Use wallpaper

Wallpapers come in many beautiful designs and are an easy and cheap way to make your house look new again. Use of removable wallpaper can add color to your space. You can also place wallpapers on your stairs. Do the same to your ceiling.

  1. Upgrade all your cabinets

Start from the kitchen area. Are there any broken hinges, any dull areas that need repainting? Go to your bathroom and bedroom. Check that all the hinges and fixtures are in place. Repair anything that is broken or old and worn-out. Change the outlook of your cabinets by, for example, using glass doors instead of the usual wood and so on.

If you are short of storage spaces, put up a few floating shelves that you can use to place some of your glamorous staff. You can do this in the bedroom too. Additionally, you can have a place where you display all your jewellery instead of bundling them all up at the corner of your wardrobe.

  1. Do not forget the floor and windows

As much as you use carpets and mats, remember to check the state of your floor. Easy peel and stick tiles can make a whole lot of a difference. You can also apply quality quick-drying paint. Another option is the use of penny tiles for a more creative look. Repair any broken window hinges. You can repaint them too.

  1. Add some decorations on your walls, shelves, and furniture tops

If your house looks dull, find some beautiful art and hang on your wall. Also, find interesting things to place on your shelves and table tops. You can also have a gallery wall that may be a collection of family pictures.

  1. Have colored boxes for your office space

To make your office more welcoming, you can get several boxes of different colors and store some of your books there, while displaying the few that you often use. Paint the shelves and add decoratives in between the books for a fresher, more attractive look.

Above everything else, invest in extra large and brighter lighting for your house. Proper lighting instantly improves house appearance. The list of things you can do is limitless if you are creative. Go ahead and start making those simple renovations to brighten up your home.
